Families Build Community

Saskatoon has given my family a home and a high quality of life. My grandfather established Cherry Insurance in 1945 and we’ve been a part of this community ever since. That’s why we’re working to make a difference and to give something back.

Cherry Insurance gives over $30,000 in annual support to dozens of organizations and events across Saskatchewan. We maintain community development in education, safety, sports and with local charities.

Read more below about how we help build community … one person at a time.

Saskatoon Community Foundation

Scott and Connie Cherry have been donors to the Saskatoon Community Foundation for over 15 years. Making Saskatoon the best community in which to live is the Foundation’s vision. This involves distributing grants to charitable organizations who work to enhance quality of life through a wide variety of projects – adult literacy, community theatre, youth initiatives, hunger programs and other areas of need.

The Cherrys give to the Foundation in many ways. The Cherry Family Fund is one legacy where interest from the fund is currently allocated to areas of urgent need within the Foundation. A designated purpose for the fund will be determined in the future.

Scott and Connie also support of the Foundation’s Batting 1000 Youth Advisory Council as it makes grants to support programs for children and youth. This innovative development initiative lets donors make a sizeable gift by arranging an interest-free loan of between $1,000 and $5,000 with Affinity Credit Union. The loan can be repaid over a period of up to three years.

Scott Cherry also supports the Foundation as a volunteer on their Board of Directors. Coming up with new ways to encourage donations and grow the Foundation’s endowment is an ongoing challenge, but for Scott it all comes down to the one-on-one sales call and continuing to build community relationships.

Law Enforcement Torch Run

Near and dear to our hearts, the Law Enforcement Torch Run supports Special Olympics. Cherry sponsors advertising, takes part in Torch Run fundraisers and sells t-shirts for $15 to help promote the run.

Cherry Bursary Program

Every year since 1998, two students are awarded the Cherry Insurance bursary as they enter their first year at the University
of Saskatchewan. This bursary is valued at $1,000 and is open to Grade 12 graduates who reside in Saskatoon, Prince Albert or North Battleford.

EveryBody's Playground

EveryBody's Playground Committee is a sub-committee of
the Erindale/Arbor Creek Community Association. They set
out to build Saskatoon's first totally accessible playground
- designed for children of all abilities with inclusion as the goal. Having raised a child with a disability, Scott and
Connie Cherry have firsthand experience with exclusion.

In September 2002 Cherry Insurance and SGI Canada became a Diamond Sponsor, donating $25,000 to the $180,000 project.

At its grand opening in the fall of 2003, the finished project marked the beginning of a future where all children, regardless of their ability, were able to play together.
